For every set of bands / artists presented pick the ones you like more than the other ones. Eventually you'll wittle it down to your very favourite, who will then appear in the "Found Favourites" section. Keep going to make a top rock groups list of whatever length you like. There's no prescribed criteria, feel free to base your list on your own personal taste or who you think the all time greatest is or however else you want to do things. I know not all of them belong in the "GOAT conversation" but I wanted to include a wide variety. I'm 100% certain I forgot a few artists of note sorry. If you want a more detailed explanation, it works by keeping track of which bands eliminate other bands. Once those are added to the found favourites list every band those bands eliminated returns to the pool. This means as long as you pick consistently you should have a perfect list of who your GOATs are. The pass button just keeps all of the current crop in the pool, so it's useful if you see a selection you don't have an opinion about. Also, you can reorder your list afterwards by dragging your picks around, just in case you made a mistake.
As for what bands made the cut, I tried to pick bands with some level of popularity, judging based on monthly streaming numbers. A few less popular bands made it through the cracks. Also, rock is extremely broad so generally I just looked to wikipedia for any given artist to see if rock was included in the genres section. That being said I tried to avoid anything that I thought was very distinctly folk, country, metal, or pop but the lines between genres can be very hard to distinguish so sorry if I excluded one of your favourite artists because they didn't match my definition of rock. And sorry also if you see any bands that make you say "that's not rock music!!!!" I tried my best!
This is a full on rip off of the favorite Pokemon picker by Cave of Dragonflies. She put all the code on github for anyone to use so massive shouts out. The original idea was to make a better alternative to bracket tournaments. Those work fine for finding your one singular favourite but everything after that is heavily dependant on seeding (i.e. in a bracket if your two favourites are pitted against each other in the first round then one of your favourites even wouldn't even make the top 10). So anyway, I hope you enjoy finding your GOATs!!!
